Blackdown Consulting is based near the village of Churchinford, on the Devon/Somerset border in the Blackdown Hills AONB.

Blackdown Consulting was established by Gemma Sparks MRICS FAAV in 2013. A farmer's daughter, now married to a farmer, Gemma understands the fundamentals of agriculture and provides a range of professional services to farmers, land owners and managers alike. 

 

Having studied at the Royal Agricultural College, for a degree in Rural Land Management, Gemma worked for a firm of land agents in the Cotswolds, qualifying with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in 2011. 

 

Following a move to the Blackdown Hills and the arrival of her first child, Gemma set up Blackdown Consulting. Working with other land agents and also independently, Gemma has a wide range of experience of dealing with a range of rural work to include:

• The Agricultural Transition

• Environmental Schemes

• Rural grants

• Agricultural agreements

• Land management

• Agricultural diversification  

 

Alongside the consultancy work, Gemma is a partner in her family farm in the Scottish Borders; a predominately arable farm extending to approximately 1400 acres, with four holiday cottages, a range of renewable energy sources and a commercial sheep flock.

Gemma runs a holiday property on the farm where she lives and previously ran a farm wedding venue, giving her first hand experience of diversification enterprises.
